Call for Papers: Treaties and Tributes — Historical Treaties of Southeast Asia

Are you a researcher or PhD student interested in Asian history, diplomacy, international relations, or Southeast Asian studies?

Thammasat University, Bangkok is inviting scholars from around the world to submit papers for the international conference “Treaties and Tributes: Asian Agency and Performativity in Cross-Cultural Diplomacy, c. 1400–1975.”

Conference: 19–21 February 2027
Location: Thammasat University, Bangkok (on-site only)
Proposal Deadline: 10 October 2026 (extended from 1 Sep)

The conference explores Asian perspectives and agency in diplomacy, treaty-making, tributary relations, trade, cultural exchange, and cross-cultural interactions.

Who can apply?

Scholars and researchers at all career levels are welcome, with particular encouragement for young scholars and PhD students based in Asia.
